Commissioning Cable System for Key Account Customer

Presented by Arizona Public Service (APS) underground engineers Danielle Anderson and Ronald Roberts at IMCORP’s 43rd Technology Users’ Group Meeting

Abstract: APS hired contract crews to install cable systems for a key account customer.  After several splice faults caused by workmanship errors, APS decided to replace the cable systems and use factory comparable partial discharge (PD) testing to verify the quality of the new installation.  The quality control PD test provided immediate and educational feedback to the installation crews who learned the value of meticulous workmanship at critical installation steps. This presentation details the experience and value APS derived by spending money upfront to perform effective commissioning tests, especially for key account customers who have sensitive loads.
